InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The members of Serikat petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) in District of Rokan Hulu, Riau Province joining in Perkumpulan Petani Sawit Swadaya Tambusai Sejahtera (PPSSTS) got Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificate in the early of 2022. 102 smallholders in PPSSTS got the certificate within their plantations that lay on 345,94 hectares (ha).
Mardoli, Manager ICS of PPSSTS, said most of the smallholders that got RSPO certificate has the palm oil plantations less than three hectares in four villages, they are, Batas, Rambah, Sungai Kumango, and Tambusai Barat. As smallholders’ organization within about 72 thousand members in Sumatera, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi, SPKS targets that its members would get RSPO certificate scheme.
General Secretary of SPKS, Mansuestus Darto said, SPKS commits to transform its members to get into palm oil market standards in the globe. “In 2023 there would be a thousand smallholders – our members – to get RSPO certificate. There have 102 smallholders in Rokan Hulu got the certificate. Then our members in District of Sekadau (West Kalimantan), Paser (East Kalimantan), Siak (Riau), and Labuhan Batu Utara (North Sumatera) would get it,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Saturday (2/7/2022).
RSPO certificate is significant because it becomes part of strategy to improve palm oil plantation governance in Indonesia which faced many challenges. By getting RSPO certificate, the independent smallholders would be put in data by name, by address and by spatial/polygon. These would improve them and the government could support to improve the Cultivation Documents, institution (building) which could be built, and deliver management training about the better cooperation.
