FFB Got Cheaper: Remain Nurse the Plantation

InfoSAWIT, PELALAWAN – Fresh fruit bunch (FFB) in many palm oil plantation centers in Indonesia gets cheaper. The smallholders in many regions, as it was informed, are not excited to harvest or nurse their plantations because their income from selling FFB is not equal to the nursery cost they spent.

But Armefri K, a smallholder in Village of Mekar Jaya, Sub district of Pangkalan Kerinci, District of Pelalawan, Riau Province is not hopeless.

“FFB price is so cheap and it is a tragedy. But I do my best to nurse my plantations,” the 52 year – old man said to InfoSAWIT, Saturday (25/6/2022). He just bought tens of KCL fertilizer. He nurses his plantation when the harvest time is about to come or after selling his FFB to the mills.

Having about eight hectares of palm oil plantation, Armefri should spend about Rp 20.600.000 to buy KCL and delivery costs to his plantations.

“If I am honest, the cash from selling my FFB, I cannot enjoy. In addition, the smallholders should spend much for the mandatory cut in the mills or loading ramps. About more than three percent. Not maximal to get,” he said.

But it did not take time to spend the FFB selling money to nurse his plantations. He believed, the cheap FFB would not last for long.

He continued, if the smallholders do not nurse their plantations, there would be impact in the future. “When FFB gets more expensive, the plantations would not produce maximally because they were not well nurse for some time,” Armefri said. (T5)
