InfoSAWIT, ISLAMABAD – In the recent days, the Government of Pakistan shocked the consumers by having ghee and palm cooking oil more expensive up to Rs 208 and Rs 213 which never happened in the past years to be Rs 555 per kg and Rs 605 per liter.
Utility Stores Corporation (USC) in Karachi confirmed to the local newspaper in English writing in Pakistan that USC published documents about ghee and palm cooking oil price which would be effective on 1 June.
The local government could not respond the expensive price of ghee and palm cooking oil that would be negative for the consumers. At the maximal price, ghee oil and other famous brands in the retail markets are about Rs 540 - 560 per kg or per liter.
But General Secretary of Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturer Association (PVMA), Umer Islam Khan thought, the retail price of ghee and palm cooking oil would be equal with USC price.
As quoted from Dawn, Umer mentioned, ghee/palm cooking oil producers stopped providing USC products because they do not pay their credits about Rs 2 - 3 billion to the producer.
He continued, prime minister’s taskforce committee in palm oil supply which consists of related ministry and PVMA did online discussion to analyze the demand and supply of (crude) palm oil.
He continued about 160 thousand tons of palm oil are available in Twin Karachi part and would be enough for the three week – consumption. Though Indonesia revoked CPO export ban on 23 May 2022, no ship delivered CPO exports from Indonesia to Pakistan. (T2)
