InfoSAWIT, MEDAN – Palm Oil Research Festival for Students in 2022 got 30 groups of researchers that Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) would fund. In order to deliver insight before conducting researches, PFMA introduced palm oil industries by inviting 90 students from many regions in Indonesia to research.
They were junior researchers which would be the future research generations. They are from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November, IPB University, Politeknik Caltex Riau, Universitas Riau, Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau, Universitas Bengkulu, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas HKBP Nommensen, Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Politeknik LPP Yogyakarta, Universitas Jember, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Universitas Lampung, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Palangka Raya, and Universitas Sebelas Maret.
Delivering palm oil insight were running for two days on 7 - 8 June 2022 by visiting one palm oil plantation company in North Sumatera Province, PT. Paya Pinang Group. It was officially inaugurated by Director in duty of Fund Distribution PFMA, Zaid Burhan Ibrahim. He told about palm oil research and development by PFMA.
Until now PFMA delivers fund to about 234 agreement contracts in cooperation with 70 research and development institutions; 80 researches by the students by involving 840 researchers and 346 students. The scientific publication from the research outcome was implemented by publishing journal in national and international scale, books, patent registration to protect intellectual rights.
“Scientific publication which had been reported to us could be about 201 journals; there have been 42 patent rights, and 6 printed books,” he said in the official statement of PFMA.
Chairman of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) of North Sumatera, Alexander Maha told about the history and status of palm oil plantations in Indonesia, and also the obstacles and opportunity to face.
He mentioned about sustainability, innovation in palm oil (downstream) industries, how to do research, write the research result, the administration, and financial report in good ways.
The researcher groups which have been approved would get the fund at Rp 20 million maximally for 6 – 8 months. As the form of appreciation, there would be trophy and cash for about Rp 50 million for the first winner, Rp 35 million for the second winner, and Rp 25 million for the third by the end of the period.
Zaid mentioned, this would be the new spirit for young generations to really contribute and enrich science and knowledge about palm oi. “The more young generation involve in palm oil researches in many aspect, the more real data and fact would be about palm oil mainstay and needs in Indonesia,” he said.
